About Me :)

My name is Ashley Adams.  I am twenty-two years old.  I am very proud to say that I am in my senior year at Appalachian State University.  I am from Mount Airy, North Carolina.  I come from a large family.  I have two brothers and two sisters.  I am fortunate to have three nephews and one niece, with another niece or nephew on the way.  I have always adored children, even when their temperaments may not have deserved adoration.  For the most part, I am extremely patient with children.  However, I may not be as patient with adults.  I decided upon the teaching profession because I truly want to impact the lives of children.  I want to be a positive influence on students.

Here is what I love:

I love to cook and bake.  As a child, my mother always encouraged my love of cooking.  I received an Easy Bake Oven when I was in the second grade.  From that point on, I could not be stopped.   I tend to be more partial to baking however.  I am very fond of ALL sweets.  When I bake, I get to be the taste-tester and savor all the sweets I desire.  There are not any dishes that I do not like making.  However, there are particular dishes which I do not attempt.  For example, my mother make the most delectable chicken pie.  Hence, I avoid making the dish for fear of falling short.

Furthermore, I love to read.  My father inspired my love of reading.  As a child, I watched my father read incessantly.  I read any chance I get.  I enjoy a variety of genres.  I am not partial to any particular one.  Be that as it may, I do enjoy reading the classics.  Wuthering Heights as well as The Grapes of Wrath are two of my favorite books.

Here is what I look like:

I am a fairly short person.  I am only five foot and two inches.  My hair is a medium shade of brown.  There are a few lighter highlights due to the amount of time I spend in the sun during the summer.  My face is heart-shaped.  the one thing that I love about myself is my eyes.  I love my hazel eyes.  I think they are an interesting color.  My nose is slightly wide.  I have a slightly larger forehead.  My sister teases me by saying I have a “fivehead” instead of a “fourhead.”  My upper lip is slightly thin in comparison to my lower lip.  I seems to disappear when I smile.  This, however, does not stop me from smiling widely.  I enjoy the fact that I have an athletic build.  I workout in order to maintain my build.  My skin tans easily.  Therefore, I do not get too pasty in the winter and in the summer I stay rather tanned.

Here is what I dislike:

I absolutely positively detest racism.  Even though our country has made great strides in putting an end to racism, racism is still am issue that plagues not only our country but countries around the world.  I believe that all individuals should be treated equally.  The color of someone’s skin should not influence how they are treated.  Individuals should be judged based upon their morals and merit, not upon the pigmentation of their skin.  From an early age, my father taught me to look on the heart of a man instead of outward appearances.  During my childhood, I was naïve.  I believed racism to be an epidemic of the past.  One day the blinders were taken off my eyes.  My bestfriend growing up was Hispanic.  She was, and is to this day, muy bonita.  I recall going shopping with Vivian one day, and hearing someone shout racial slurs at her.  This made me realize that racism is still very much an issue in today’s society.  I try to teach all my nieces and nephews to judge others not by the color of their skin, but on who they are as a person.

Here is how I act:

I act prideful when talking about my family.  My family is so very important to me.  They have been such a great support to me.  They love me inspite of my flaws.  My father is a pastor and missionary.  He truly tries to make a difference in the world.  My brother, Joseph,  is a soldier.  I am tremendously proud of the man he has turned out to be.  He is truly a hero.  My mother is my inspiration.  If I can be half the woman she is, I will turn out okay.  She is the rock in our family.  My oldest sister April had shown me that you cannot judge people.  We must leave that to God.  My elder sister, Autumn, is the bravest person I know.  She wakes up each day with a smile on her face in spite of her battle with a life-threatening disease.  I am proud of my family.

I act animated when telling stories.  I raise my voice more than I should to ensure that everyone can hear me.  I use my hands to illustrate the story.  I use may face to show the emotions of those in the story.  My boyfriend accuses me of being a little too animated when telling stories.

When cooking or baking, I act very authoritative.  I believe myself to be somewhat of a chef.  I take command of my kitchen.  I like for people to stay out of my way when I am in the kitchen.  If they feel obligated to help, I give orders and expect them to be follow.  I somewhat resemble a drill Sergeant.
